Hello Parents and Families of Charles Sumner Elementary:
My name is Robert DeLuca and I’m extremely happy to join the staff at Charles Sumner as the new Principal. I am a proud Invader having graduated from West Scranton High School and also a proud Charles Sumner Star having grown up just around the corner from our school and spending many days at our school yard playing with numerous neighborhood friends! I’m very passionate about education and I look forward to partnering with you to provide our students with a rigorous, engaging, and high-quality elementary experience. As the parent of three children ages 7, 6, and 3, I recognize the importance of a strong home-school connection. Parents are who our children look to as their first educator and I believe that by working together, we can make sure Charles Sumner is a school where all students needs are met.
Before joining Charles Sumner, I have been the Assistant Principal at West Scranton High School for the last three years. I taught in two separate districts Pocono Mountain and Tunkhannock Area School District, as a Health and Physical Education teacher. My academic background includes a Master of Science in 21st Century Teaching and Learning and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Wilkes University. In addition to my education I have also served 6 years in the Army National Guard, serving in Operation Joint Forge in Bosnia – Herzegovina for 11 months after September 11, 2001.
I believe that great schools are the results of great teachers, so my primary objective will be to ensure that every student is receiving high-quality instruction from every teacher at Charles Sumner. In order to do this, I will be providing teachers with feedback on their instruction and seeking out the resources and materials needed for student success. I will be reaching out to parents for support with academic and behavioral concerns to ensure our students are continuing to grow and to maintain an open level of communication.
I plan to work closely with our PTA in effort to provide our students with many events and fundraisers so everyone can experience the many great things that our community has to offer! I am encouraging all of you to get involved with Parent Teacher Association to ensure that your voices are heard. With this in mind, I want to invite you to a meet and greet at Decembers PTA meeting on December 7th at 6:00 in our multi-purpose room. I hope to see all of you there!
Thank you for the opportunity to be part of your child’s early educational journey. If there are any issues please do not hesitate to call 570-348-3688 or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
